Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy – High School
Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy is a new state-of-the-art, privately funded charter school created out of the need to expand the services of the growing organization while also acting as part of a larger revitalization at the heart of Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood. The school’s existing high school was cleared out and renovated to accommodate a newly expanded middle school,
and this facility was built in tandem to serve the existing high school students, faculty, and staff. The organization honors the academic work of the great Dr. Howard Fuller who remains on the board of the school and was involved in assessing the needs of the school and providing input on the design of this project.
Engberg Anderson worked extensively with Dr. Howard Fuller, the board, the community, and other stakeholders to determine the needs of the school. The result is an advanced, modern academy with intentional gathering spaces, clear wayfinding, a cutting-edge gym, bright classrooms, and even a top-of-the-line recording studio. All of these features help support the mission of the school
which focuses on a more mature high school to college pipeline; and they work alongside strong branding throughout the school and careful uses of finishes to promote a sense of school identity.
