McMillan Memorial Library

Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

Engberg Anderson partnered with McMillan Memorial Library to reimagine their Adult Collections space to meet their community’s evolving needs. The existing brutalist library had remained largely untouched since the building opened in the 1960s. The design team conducted a space needs analysis and identified several programmatic needs based on library staff and community input.

The newly renovated spaces are composed of a renewed double-height skylight that floods the Adult Collections room with natural daylight. A series of new group study and meeting rooms offer patrons various meeting and seating options, with quick access to technology. The library’s flourishing, tech-rich Makerspace, with a professional-grade recording studio, was brought out of the library’s basement and composed as a visible, prominent feature in the new space.
