Goodman South Madison Library

Madison Public Library

Madison, Wisconsin

When the Goodman South Branch first opened in 2010, the Engberg Anderson-led design balanced the needs of all patrons. One problem with the space was that the children’s interactive play area was separated from the adults’ fireside lounge by a small teen alcove. Teens flocked to the library, making it their own. Madison embraced the development and hired EA and Mike Ford, the Hip-Hop Architect, to engage the young patrons in a redesign. The overall impact of the renovation far exceeded the reasonably modest investment. The project is a testament to how libraries are in a constant state of evolution and how effective designs can adapt to meet the changing needs of a community.
