To celebrate Earth Day, take a look at one of our Green Design projects, the Water Conservation House. The Madison Water Utility created this project to not only make use of vacant city land but to promote the core values of water conservation and efficiency. The modest, 2-3 bedroom single-family home, will feature innovative, water-saving technology inside and out. Some of those features include:
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Irrigation overflow storage tank
- Low-flow fixtures
- Drain water heat recovery system
- Drought tolerant landscaping
Additional energy saving features include 5KW solar panels, aVRF heating and cooling system, an ERV system, and advanced framing techniques for a higher insulated envelope. These innovations are expected to cut per-person municipal water use by half.
We anticipate breaking ground in the spring of 2020. The City of Madison will use the Water Conservation House initially for conservation outreach and education.
