MODGEN

Located in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, MOD GEN is a modern twist on the classic mom and pop general store. The four-story 1904-era cream city brick building, designed by renowned Milwaukee architect Alexander C. Eschweiler, was originally occupied by Columbia Knitting Company. Over the years the building has housed a number of warehouse tenants including a coffee wholesaler, upholstery supplier and most recently, a trophy manufacturer.

Engberg Anderson carefully restored the building’s elegant terra cotta and stone trim façade, replacing existing wood sash windows with modern, but historically accurate and operable counterparts. Newly-exposed brick walls, ceilings, and a reclaimed barn wood floor add warmth to the open interior. Windows added to the south and west walls allow for an abundance of natural light.
