The Posner BUilding

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Posner building, a department store when built, was originally constructed in two phases – the first phase in 1907 and an addition in 1913. Redeveloped by HKS Holdings LLC, the building now includes 105 apartments with ground floor retail. Through partial WHEDA financing, for 20% of the units to be set aside for individuals making less than or equal to 80% of Milwaukee County’s median income. Additional financing from state and federal historic tax credits covered part of the costs of restoring this national historic structure.

This development brings new urban apartments, underground parking and vibrant retail tenants. A formerly blank façade now glows and has become a statement for the new activity west of the river, brightened by the impact of active new residents.
