The North End

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Beginning in 2008, Developer Mandel Group’s, vision called for a hip, urban hotel feel for their apartment project.  The North End is located on the former Pfister & Vogel tannery site at the crossroads of Milwaukee’s downtown and northern eastside neighborhoods. The former tannery site was heavily affected with petroleum volatile organic compounds, PAH’s and metals. As part of the city’s efforts to revitalize former industrial brownfields, The North End redevelopment project is a vibrant model neighborhood.

Creating a truly walkable neighborhood was a design influence for The North End, bringing vitality to a section of the city that had previously been contaminated. Working with the city and the Department of Natural Resources, through a recession and the changing real estate market, The North End is a catalyst for growth along the Milwaukee River. The  8-acre, five-building development contains almost 500 luxury apartments, 25,000 sf of retail space, a large urban plaza, and a tree-lined street adjacent to a new extension of the Milwaukee Riverwalk.
